Tentang Kami

Ditubuhkan di bawah Akta Suruhanjaya Tenaga 2001, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) bertanggungjawab mengawal selia sektor tenaga, khususnya industri pembekalan elektrik dan gas berpaip di Semenanjung Malaysia. Mengambil alih peranan Jabatan Bekalan Elektrik dan Gas, ST mula beroperasi sepenuhnya pada 1 Januari 2002. Fokus utama ST adalah bekalan elektrik dan gas yang berdaya harap, kos yang munasabah dan selamat digunakan.

Untuk menggalakkan keekonomian dalam penjanaan, penghantaran, pengagihan, pembekalan dan penggunaan elektrik dan dalam retikulasi dan penggunaan gas; menggalakkan persaingan; membolehkan pengendalian pasaran yang adil dan cekap dan mencegah penyalahgunaan monopoli atau kuasa pasaran dalam industri elektrik dan gas berpaip.

Commission Members

YBhg. Datuk Seri Asri bin Hamidon

  • Current Role: Chairman of the Energy Commission (appointed on 1 January 2026).
  • Experience: Served as Secretary-General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance (MoF) (2020–2022) and Head of Secretariat, Federal Statutory Bodies Rationalisation Office, Prime Minister’s Department (2024–2026); held senior leadership roles in MOF, including Deputy Secretary-General (Policy), Deputy Secretary-General (Investment), and Under-Secretary for Government Investment Companies (GIC);  Former Chairman of Retirement Fund (Incorporated) (KWAP) and Public Sector Home Financing Board (LPPSA); Former Director for Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), PETRONAS and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
  • Early Career: Began in 1994 as an Assistant Director in the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) before moving to the Anti-Corruption Agency in 1997 and Public Service Department in 2003.
  • Education: Master’s in Economics from Hiroshima University, Japan; Diploma in Public Administration (DPA) from National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN);  Bachelor in Economics (Hons) from University Malaya (UM).

Puan Siti Safinah binti Salleh

  • Current Role: CEO of the Energy Commission (appointed in February 2025).
  • Experience: CEO of MyPOWER Corporation (2021); senior roles in strategy and governance at Khazanah Nasional; board member of Valuecap Asset Managers.
  • Early Career: Software Engineer at Telekom Malaysia; corporate planning at Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDeC).
  • Education: Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University; Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM); Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology from Multimedia University.
     

Datuk Dr. Shahrazat binti Haji Ahmad

  • Current Role: Deputy Secretary-General of Treasury (Investment), MoF.
  • Experience: Deputy Secretary-General (Development), Ministry of Defence; various leadership positions at the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU).
  • Early Career: Started in 1995 as an Assistant Secretary at Government Investment Company Division, MoF.
  • Education: PhD in Social Sciences/International Economics from University of Kitakyushu, Japan; Master’s in Social Sciences/International Economics from  International University of Japan.

Dr. Afiza binti Idris

  • Current Role: Director of the Energy Division, Ministry of Economy.
  • Experience: Over two decades in public service in economic policy, public administration, and energy sector development; board member of MyPOWER Corporation and Johor Petroleum Development Corporation (JPDC).
  • Early Career: Began in 2000 serving in various capacities at the MoF, Public Service Department, and the EPU.
  • Education: PhD in Agricultural Policy from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM); Master of Economics from UPM; Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University; Diploma in Public Administration from INTAN.

Datuk Dyg Sadiah binti Abg Bohan

  • Current Role: Board member for Hospital PUSRAWI, Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (MAIWP), Bintulu Port Holdings, and Theta Edge Berhad.
  • Experience: Former Director-General of the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS); seconded to the World Bank as Alternate Executive Director.
  • Early Career: Started in 1989 at the Ministry of Agriculture; served the INTAN before joining MoF.
  • Education: Master of Business Administration from National University of Malaysia (UKM).

Dato' Adrian Ching Kok Suang

  • Current Role: Executive Director of SaraWorks Sdn. Bhd.; Director of Brooke Holding Sdn. Bhd.
  • Experience: Senior roles at Technology Park Malaysia; board member of Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) and Samling Group.
  • Early Career: Over 35 years of experience; achieved major tech milestones including Establishing Huawei's Global Training Centre in Malaysia.
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Forestry from University of Toronto.
     

Tuan Ranjit Singh s/o Harbinder Singh

  • Current Role: Senior Litigation Partner at Ranjit Singh & Yeah.
  • Experience: Over 30 years as a leading litigator; specialises in corporate disputes, judicial review, and white-collar crime; advisor to public listed companies.
  • Early Career: Began with Messrs Presgrave & Matthews; became Partner and Head of Litigation at Messrs Cheang & Ariff in 1993; co-founded Messrs Ranjit Ooi & Robert Low in 1999.
  • Education: Barrister-at-Law (Middle Temple); member of the Malaysian Bar since 1988.
     

Tuan Kamal Bahrin bin Ahmad

  • Current Role: Retired PETRONAS executive (effective 1 January 2026).
  • Experience: Senior Vice President of Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC); Vice President of Gas & Power and Managing Director/CEO of PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB); board of Gas Malaysia Berhad (GMB); Council Member of the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA).
  • Early Career: 38 years in the oil and gas industry across the PETRONAS value chain; Managing Director/CEO of Melaka Refinery; General Manager of the Engen Refinery in South Africa.
  • Education: Degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Texas; Advanced Management Program graduate from Harvard Business School.

  • Current Role: Deputy Secretary-General (Energy), Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA).
  • Experience: Under Secretary of Electricity Supply Division, PETRA; senior roles at Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)  and Malaysia Space Agency.
  • Early Career: Began as a Chemist at Rubber Research Institute (1997); Assistant Secretary at the Ministry of Health (1998).
  • Education: Master of Business Administration in Management and Finance from UPM; Diploma in Public Management from INTAN; Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from University of Science, (USM).

Organisational Structure

ST has launched an ambitious Transformation Plan to strengthen regulatory effectiveness towards delivering its purpose: Commitment to serve the interests and well-being of energy consumers in ensuring secure, equitable and clean supply of energy, as defined in the Energy Commission Act (610). As part of the transformation, an organisation structure effective 1st January 2026 has been designed to streamline resources and enhance regulatory oversight in line with the rapidly evolving energy sector.

The Logo

An elaborated symbol from the alphabets ‘S’ and ‘T’ are pictured as the dominant logo type. The swift curves of the combined alphabets represent the dynamic and critical role of the Energy Commission.

The semi-circle shape that comprises half the shape of ‘S’ and ‘T’ symbolises the commitment of the organisation to protect the industry and consumers towards quality living. The chosen colour of rusty red symbolises the natural source of energy, strength and determination of excellence whilst cobalt blue symbolises wisdom and trustworthiness.

In 2016, Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) gazetted the ST logo to avoid any form of misuse. This gazetting also advises legal actions that can be taken on any party who misuse and abuse ST’s logo for business or personal advantages.

Integration of Electricity and Piped Gas:

The number “25” as the central element of the logo, symbolizing 25 years since the establishment of the Energy Commission of Malaysia (Suruhanjaya Tenaga – ST) as an established and credible regulatory body in ensuring the electricity and piped gas supply industry operates in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner, in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan. 

The dynamic and modern design of the number reflects ST’s ability to adapt to the ever-evolving energy landscape, including the transition towards digitalisation and sustainable energy.

The visual combination of the gas valve and transmission tower represents ST’s role as the regulatory authority for the nation’s two key sectors, namely electricity and piped gas.
